Atheism in America

Collected by: Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing

Archived since: Feb, 2019

Description:

This collection was created in 2019 to document ontemporary ideas about atheism in America, including how atheists represent themselves, how they are described elsewhere, and common issues that merit their attention. The project aims to preserve documentation of a religious movement that by its very nature lacks established institutions of worship to collect and archive their goals and voices. The goal is to more diversely represent the American public, and to preserve records of atheism for future historical researchers. Selection will include popular blogs, materials from prominent atheist organizations, and individual informational or opinion articles on the topic.

Title: Reddit: r/atheism

URL: https://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/hot/

Description: Reddit is one of the most popular social media sites for discussion of categorized topics, and this is the atheism subreddit. This website was collected because it is one of the most popular venues for atheists to congregate and discuss a vast array of topics, with 2.3 million members. If possible, this archive would include the entire subreddit, but space constraints necessitate a bigger picture, overview look at the website as a collection of topics, rather than allowing for detailed examination of individual posts and replies.
