Description: In 1917, professor and future school president, Leon Meadows requested a leave of absence from East Carolina to volunteer for service in France during World War I. His act embodied the school’s Latin moto 'servire' or 'to serve' and began a century long tradition of service by the students, faculty, and staff of East Carolina. In the years since, East Carolina veterans have served before and after their time on campus in periods of conflict and peace throughout the world. To document that commitment to service, Academic Library Services seeks to collect and document the images and stories of those who have served. To contribute a memory of your own or on behalf of a loved one living or deceased, please visit the Contribute page. For more information, comments, or questions, contact specialcollections@ecu.edu.

Description: The ECU virtual history museum seeks to recapture the multifaceted ECU story with historical essays and images arranged chronologically and thematically. Along the way, there is much to appreciate, and perhaps more to anticipate as we explore the ever unfolding possibilities in ECU’s next century. This museum site is thus dedicated to preserving our University's past even as it envisions ECU’s newest century of growth in education and service to the people of North Carolina, the nation, and the international community.
