Title: East Carolina University - Zeta Psi

URL: http://ecu.alphaomicronpi.org/

Description: Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity was founded on January 2, 1897 at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City. The ideals of sincerity, service, and friendship provide the foundation for AOII. As one of our founders Stella George Stern Perry explained, "We cared so profoundly for one another that we unconsciously desired a society based upon original feeling... We felt that as love never faileth, a future on that foundation was assured." With over 168,000 initiated members from 206 collegiate chapters, the values on which AOII was founded help lead us in the decisions we make and the behaviors we exhibit in our daily lives. We are inspired to promote the values of simplicity, integrity, tolerance, generosity, personal dignity, and love. Our lives are to be living symbols of these values that we hold in common. They enable us to go with character and confidence into the world around us, with assurance in knowing AOII is ours, offering friendships and opportunities throughout our lifetime.

Title: Psi Chi: The International Honor Society in Psychology and the Phycology Club at East Carolina University

URL: http://myweb.ecu.edu/bakermich/psichihp.htm

Description: Psi Chi began at ECU in 1966 under the leadership of Dr. William Grossnickle. Throughout the years Psi Chi has endeavored to serve the Department and all students in psychology. Most notably, the Psi Chi Library (Rawl 302) continues to provide a quiet place to study, handy reference books, and an alternative "conference room" for student research projects and committee work. Because of the hard work of Psi Chi members in the past, we also have an endowed scholarship for an undergraduate student each year. Dissatisfied by the impersonal nature of the University graduation ceremony, ECU Psi Chi members began coordinating a departmental graduation ceremony. The ceremony is well attended, anxiously anticipated by graduates and their families, and includes a nice reception afterward. We have also sponsored a Faculty-Student Pot Luck Luncheons in past semesters to encourage student-faculty interaction outside of the classroom. While departmental service projects are important, the emphasis of programming is on students. Psi Chi helps psychology students better understand the field of psychology, the career options available in psychology, and ways to become more involved in your education at ECU. We have speakers each semester who discuss getting into graduate school, research opportunities at ECU, and careers in psychology. There is always a speaker who is currently working in the field and will share with us what their job is like and how they got there. Psi Chi also offers students the opportunity for leadership. Each year we elect officers to lead the chapter for the following year. We also have a number of committees that operate to implement the projects of the organization. We invite everyone to learn organizational skills, influence skills, and to improve your public speaking skills by becoming an officer or committee chair for Psi Chi.

Title: Collegiate Recovery Community

URL: https://collegiaterecovery.ecu.edu/

Description: On May 13, 2014, former Governor Pat McCrory signed the executive order at East Carolina University, one of six University of North Carolina campuses participating in the pilot program with an emphasis on prevention and treatment. ECU was joined by UNC-Chapel Hill, North Carolina A&T, UNC-Charlotte, UNC-Wilmington and UNC-Greensboro in the program. The Governor’s Substance Abuse and Underage Drinking Prevention and Treatment Task Force will build on statewide prevention, treatment and enforcement initiatives implemented by the Alcohol Beverage Control Commission, Alcohol Law Enforcement Division, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the UNC system. ECU has implemented education, prevention, and intervention initiatives that include educating students during orientation; having required electronic education modules; offering programming for specific groups like Greek life and student athletes; and providing assessment, counseling, and referral resources. The next important step for our campus and others across the state is to build recovery initiatives to help students stop the cycle of addiction. The CRC allows ECU to create a support network of services to assist students along their developmental and educational journey.
