NGOs in Nepal

Collected by: Cornell University Library

Archived since: Oct, 2018

Description:

Throughout recorded history, Nepal has nestled between the giant cultural formations of India to the south and China/Tibet to the north. With the globalization of modern times, international interests and concerns draw Nepal into contact with more distant corners of the world. There are now a multitude of non-governmental organizations at work in Nepal, many headquartered in the Kathmandu Valley. Some are international NGOs and some are purely Nepali, some are long running and some are startups. All of the websites archived here are NGO self-presentations of their aspirations and their achievements on various fronts—humanitarian, environmental, economic, political, religious, and more.

Description: Organization founded in 1987 "Today SWI is recognized as institute that trains genuine social workers adhering to social work values and principles. The SWI alumni are known as dedicated and committed social workers. Encouraging positive change can be noticed at the local level due to the SWI micro-project interventions. Rural people’s awareness about their rights and duties has increased, as have their capacities to organize in self-help groups and cooperatives. Rural people are promoting local technologies in farming, like seed exchange for sustainable livelihood. Further, in some places, women gained a higher economic and social status in their respective communities due to their active involvement in groups and cooperatives. During the 2015 earthquake SWI alumni became popular as quick disaster responders."--taken from website 2024.05.20
