Following thoughtful consideration, it was determined that the charter school model is the ideal choice to accomplish this goal. The school was originally named the Dixie Montessori Academy.

The Founding Board of MVM started as the shared interests of parents whose children attended the private Dayspring Montessori Educational Center (DMEC) and as a passion to support the Montessori approach and place a high value on choice and affordability in education. Based on the successes seen in their children attending DMEC, the goal of the members of the Founding Board was to extend these opportunities to greater numbers by making an authentic Montessori-based education more widely available in the larger community. Following thoughtful consideration, it was determined that the charter school model is the ideal choice to accomplish this goal. The school was originally named the Dixie Montessori Academy.

This group, led by Val and Celia Johnson, founded the school on principles of freedom and on classical educational philosophies. Paradigm was one of the first stand-alone charter high schools (not on a college campus) in Utah, serving grades 9-12, starting with 200 students in two warehouses, located in Sandy, Utah. In 2008, the school moved to our current location in South Jordan and grew to our student count of over 500, an ideal size for smaller, individualized learning experiences. In 2013, the school became Paradigm Schools when it expanded to include the Paradigm Preparatory, serving grades 7-8. Paradigm has created a strong curriculum comprised of original works, primary source documents, and classic books; it does not utilize textbooks.
