Description: The Alabama Department of Senior Services supports a network of agencies and programs throughout the State of Alabama for the following purposes: to secure and maintain the independence and dignity of older persons; to remove social and individual barriers; to assure the provision of a continuum of care for the vulnerable elderly; and to develop comprehensive, coordinated systems for older persons. ADSS develops and administers a State Plan on Aging; designates planning and service areas; awards all Title III funds to area agencies on aging with approved area plans; operates any long-term care ombudsman programs; and provides in-home services to Medicaid-eligible elderly and disabled persons to prevent or delay institutionalization.
