Description: This is the website for DENR's Office of Organizational Excellence. Governor Hunt committed his administration to implementing "Organizational Excellence Principles" into North Carolina State Government as a way of "Reinventing Government". The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR) became a pilot agency in this initiative. "Organizational Excellence Principles" encompass factors such as customer focus, continuous improvement, employee involvement and empowerment, teamwork, strategic planning and data-based decision making. Some of the tools we're using are -- brainstorming, flowcharts, workgroups, statistical tools, and decision-making by consensus.

Fifteen individuals have served as secretary of the department since its creation. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction, purchasing and contracting for goods and services, managing state vehicles, acquiring and disposing of real property, and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property.
