Description: In Ramadan of 1982, a few Muslims from Astoria decided to offer Salatul Tarawee in the apartment of Dr. Moinul Islam. That was the first step taken towards the creation of Astoria Islamic Center Inc. (Masjid Baitul Mukaram) of today. After Ramadan of 1982, the Muslims continued to pray Isha salat regularly in the houses of Muslims following a weekly schedule. Later in 1987, Masjid Baitul Mukarram started to function fully as a mosque in the basement of 21-27, 27th st. In 1994, Masjid Baitul Mukarram was moved to its present location on 22-21 33rd Street.
